Dear Shiloh Family,

Remember when you said, “I do”?  Some of you may not have made the vows, but you’ve probably heard them many times.  Anita and I linked our journey almost 39 years ago at Shiloh.  In fact, last weekend, we retraced some of the same steps we took on our honeymoon.  Feet that once glided, danced, and floated along the familiar sidewalks, were now more deliberate and careful.  Three kids and five grandbabies had slowed the pace a bit.  However, we still held hands, talked, and shared deeper love than when we made the first trek as newlyweds.

In retrospect, we had no clue what “I do” meant.  We could have never predicted the mountains that would be climbed, the hearts that would be broken, nor the laughter we would share.  My sweetheart and I are still learning to focus less on the events and more on the journey.

Often, we treat the church, and Jesus, the same way.  We say we do, but we don’t.  Many of us love the salvation beginning, sing about the heaven ending, but leave the relationship out of the middle.  I’m glad Jesus said I will, and HE DID.

Luke 22:41-42

41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.  KJV

The church at Corinth was struggling.  They had committed to Christ, but their journey didn’t include Him or His principles.  If the Lord permits, I will begin a series this Sunday in 1 Corinthians.  I encourage everyone to attend with an open mind and a heart centered on Jesus because the study will deal with many controversial, yet relative issues. However, the study should prove helpful and productive for our church and personal growth in Christ this year.  Please pray that God’s word will be presented clearly and purely.

We began a building program several years ago that was designed for the safety and ministry of our youth and children.  The last Sunday in February will be designated as “Chest of Joash Day”. All the proceeds will go toward the payoff of our existing loan on the “New Building”.  More information will be given as days progress.  Please pray for what the Lord would have you contribute to this event.

Our walk with Jesus is often determined by the will of our minds.

God bless you all,

Pastor Derrell
