Dear Shiloh Family,

     It was an incredible and weather perfect day at Dollywood.  Temps hovered in the mid 60’s, the sun danced in and out of the clouds, and the southeasterly winds were variable and tolerable.  The higher-than-normal volume of attendees was, to the adults, a bit inconvenient, but my 5 grandbabies didn’t seem to mind.  And I discovered the more I focused on them, the less I noticed the crowd because my family is what made the day incredible.

     We dodged, jived, and swerved as we navigated the maze of bodies to only the choice attractions, mainly the ones Brady and Josie were tall enough to ride. However, one particular thriller in the kiddie section presented a Daddy/Daughter moment, one I caught on camera.

     It was the kiddie version of the ride that takes you into the clouds and then for no apparent reason, releases you into the grips of gravity, and stops the decent just before you plunge into mother earth.  Yeah, several times the victim alternates between peering out a buttonhole to struggling to keep shoes or pants on. My son-in-law doublecheck the ride attendant as she pulled down the safety bar, buckled the seatbelt harness, and tightened all the straps that held my granddaughter fast…ready for takeoff.

     I snapped several photos during the allotted ride-time which revealed a plethora of facial expressions…smiles, laughter, surprise, fear, and mild terror.  However, I also captured the neatest thing.  In one picture, Daddy’s hand is firmly around his little girl’s leg.  In another, it is draped across her tummy like a vice.  In spite of the safety equipment implemented by the park, Dad was taking no chances.  How cool is that?

Palms 37:23-24

23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,

And He delights in his way.

24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;

For the Lord upholds him with His hand.  NKJV

          It reminds me of my heavenly Father.  Though we have all the protective devices of the world in place.  Even though we do all the right things to protect our lives and the future of our families.  Even if we follow the Pastor’s pulpit directions, and meet all the expectations of the church, we often still feel like we are falling. Life lifts us and drops us at will.  However, if we could freezeframe life, a clearer picture might emerge.  Were it possible to take a still-shot glimpse of our current situation, we would discover that the hand of the Almighty God is not only firmly between us and the enemy; we would find ourselves securely wrapped in his hands and held in His strong arms.

     Hear the call of the Holy Spirit, accept Jesus Christ the son, and trust the hand of the Father.

John 10:27-30: 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.  28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.  29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand.  30 I and My Father are one." NKJV

Remember, the author of the story writes the last page of the book.

God bless you all,

Pastor Derrell
