Dear Shiloh Family,

     As I monkey-climbed the chain link fence that surrounded the football field, I yelled my cousin’s name several times before he slightly acknowledged my presence with an over-the-shoulder glance and behind-the-back wave.  He played for an old-school coach who didn’t allow his players to communicate with the stands during a game (what an awesome concept).  

     The dialogue at church the next Sunday went as follows; “I saw you on the field Friday night.” 

     “Thanks, I’m sorry I didn’t get to play much.” 

     To which I replied, “Oh, that’s OK.  I didn’t notice.”  

     That sounds a bit funny, or insensitive. But to me, playing time wasn’t the issue. I was excited to see one of my heroes on the field, in a Gordon Lee uniform, representing his school.  Obviously, I was much younger than him, so he could do no wrong in my eyes.  That brief encounter left an indelible impression and a burning desire to one day be a part of such a team. 

1 Corinthians 4:1-3 

4 Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.  NKJV

     Likewise, our presence in the Lord’s house is eternally valuable to God and the people around us, especially the younger, impressionable ones.  It’s not just about being a pastor, teacher, usher, singer, etc.…  It is all about your presence.  However, one never knows how His or her involvement in a particular ministry might spark an interest that ignites the flame of a budding leader.  On the flip side, it would be tragic if a co-worker or family member became discouraged because of our empty seat.  There is nothing more discouraging to a coach than when assistants or players are absent from practice or games.  I’ll keep it positive.  There is nothing more exciting to a Pastor or ministry leader than when everyone attends Sunday worship and other scheduled events. 

     Shiloh, you have seldom left this pastor disappointed because of attendance.    I am proud to be part of such a supportive body of believers.  Thank you for always loving with your presence.  I encourage everyone to suit up, show up, and shine the light.   

I’m glad the shepherds and wisemen didn’t find an empty manger.

PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS:  If you would like to meet to discuss membership at Shiloh, I would love to meet with you between the two morning services from 10:00 – 10:30 AM.  Please schedule the appointment through the church office.

CHRISTMAS CANTATA:  The Shiloh music ministry will be performing a Christmas Cantata/musical at 11:00 AM on December 18th. 

THANKSGIVING/CHRISTMAS DINNER:  Our combined Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner will be December 18th, immediately following the 11:00 AM service.  The format will be covered dish.

LOTTIE MOON CHRISTMAS OFFERING:  This offering goes directly to our Southern Baptist missionaries.  It can be given from now to the end of December.

 

MINISTRY ANNOUNCEMENTS

 CANTATA-THANKSGIVNG/CHRISTMAS DINNER:

Our Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner is scheduled for Sunday, December 18th, immediately following our Christmas Cantata.  As per request from many of our ladies, we will go back to the covered dish format.  The church will provide the meats if you provide the fixins. A good rule-of-thumb is to cook enough for your family and one more.  If everyone does this, there should be sufficient food for all.  I love this format!  It has been a special time at Shiloh for many years.  There has always been plenty of food for everyone.  However, it works best if everyone participates.  I encourage all of you to enjoy the awesome time of food and fellowship. 

USHERS MINISTRY:  We would love for all men, ages 16 and up to sign up for our usher ministry.  The more people who participate, the less each person will be asked to work each month.  There are signup sheets in the vestibule. If you have questions, contact Baylee Brown, Bill Newbille, or you can call Melissa in the church office.

CHOIR PRACTICE:  Every other Thursday night at 7:00 PM. We are practicing Christmas music, so it is a great time to join the Shiloh Choir. 

LADIES:  W.O.W. (Women of Worship) would like to introduce a new women’s ministry opportunity.  Its purpose is to connect through a small, intimate, dinner setting.  There is room for all ladies to eventually be involved as we pray over and move through our congregation each quarter.  Please, help us pray!

MEN’S MINISTRY: Men's Bible study every Monday @ 6:30 PM.  Come enjoy Physical and Spiritual food and fellowship in the FLC.

SUNDAY WORSHIP:  8:30 and 11:00 AM in the main auditorium.

SUNDAY SCHOOL:  9:45-10:45

CHILDREN’S CHURCH:  Tya Mercer will be conducting children’s church (Pre-K & Kindergarten) during the 2nd service.

JR. CHURCH:  (1st-5th grade) will meet upstairs in the FLC during the 2nd service.

NURSERY:  Nursery will now be provided in both services.  However, we are still in need of adult workers in both services.  If you would volunteer to work in either service, please contact Lea or call Melissa at the church office.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: 

  • ADULT BIBLE STUDY:   Bro. David Jones will continue the Wednesday night Bible study and prayer meeting.  He is currently teaching a series on "Finding Selah." Please plan to attend each Wednesday at 7:00.

  • COLLEGE AND CAREER:  Jon Carson will be leading a Bible study each Wednesday night.  The group will be meeting downstairs in the main building.  

  • YOUTH:  The High School/Middle School youth group will meet upstairs in the FLC.

  • AWANA:  3 Yr Old through 5th Grade - Wednesday, 6:30-8:00 PM


SUNDAY SCHOOL:  Several of our SS classes and small groups are meeting at various non-traditional times throughout the week. Morning Sunday School will be between services and will begin at 9:45. Some of the locations have temporarily changed.  Teachers, please contact members and prospective members and inform them of the times and location of their class.
