Dear Shiloh Family,

As we ascended the steep, Manchester, Kentucky lane to the local Baptist Associational office/youth house/mission house/former two-story dwelling (it really was all of these and more), it was as if Santa had made an early arrival.  Spencer’s big Duramax diesel was the reindeer, the 16’ covered trailer was the sleigh, Eddie Rushing was Santa, and Spencer and I were the elves.  Please, no comment about me fitting the elf description.  The load of presents was 700 backpacks filled with everything from school supplies to footballs and frilly dolls.

Our NWGABA association partners with the Clay County, Kentucky office each year to provide “Backpacks of Blessings” to the children in their local school districts.  Spencer and I had the privilege of helping deliver the rolling pot of gold.  I say privilege, because the joy on the faces of the members of three participating churches was worth the 500-mile adventure.  When the trailer door dropped, one would have thought its contents were the crown jewels.  The ladies began filling their church’s orders while the men offloaded the remaining color-coded goody bags into the office.  It was great!

Perhaps, the most impressive thing about the excitement was not the gratitude for the items, but rather, the anticipation of the upcoming distribution events.  They were ecstatic about the carnivals, festivals, petting zoos, and the like that would set the stage for evangelistic outreach.  Yes, their excitement was centered around how the blessing of the backpacks was actually the opportunity to spread the gospel to the children in their communities.  The pastors related to us about how many received Jesus last year and their hopes of salvations for this year.

It was a great day spent with two great men, but it was a wonderful experience for a wonderful cause.

Acts 2:44-47

44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. 46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. NKJV

As we give and receive gifts this Christmas season, enjoy the festive events and nostalgic relationships.  However, I encourage all to seek new opportunities to spread the gospel and be creative in telling the story of the child in a manger who became the Savior on the cross.

Doing for others often results in healing for ourselves.

 God bless you all,

 Pastor Derrell

MINISTRY ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 CANTATA-THANKSGIVNG/CHRISTMAS DINNER:

Our Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner is scheduled for Sunday, December 18th, immediately following our Christmas Cantata.  As per request from many of our ladies, we will go back to the covered dish format.  The church will provide the meats if you provide the fixins. A good rule-of-thumb is to cook enough for your family and one more.  If everyone does this, there should be sufficient food for all.  I love this format!  It has been a special time at Shiloh for many years.  There has always been plenty of food for everyone.  However, it works best if everyone participates.  I encourage all of you to enjoy the awesome time of food and fellowship.

USHERS MINISTRY:  We would love for all men, ages 16 and up to sign up for our usher ministry.  The more people who participate, the less each person will be asked to work each month.  There are signup sheets in the vestibule. If you have questions, contact Baylee Brown, Bill Newbille, or you can call Melissa in the church office.

CHOIR PRACTICE:  Every other Thursday night at 7:00 PM. We are practicing Christmas music, so it is a great time to join the Shiloh Choir.

LADIES:  W.O.W. (Women of Worship) would like to introduce a new women’s ministry opportunity.  Its purpose is to connect through a small, intimate, dinner setting.  There is room for all ladies to eventually be involved as we pray over and move through our congregation each quarter.  Please, help us pray!

MEN’S MINISTRY: Men's Bible study every Monday @ 6:30 PM.  Come enjoy Physical and Spiritual food and fellowship in the FLC.
