Dear Shiloh Family,

The wind was straight out of the north, brisk, cold, and bitter, and it bit like a bumble bee.  I was bent on completing the task at hand and retreating to the confines of the warm living room.  However, Anita was persistent in getting my attention as she rapped on the window from inside the laundry room.

“Derrell, Derrell, would you please wave at us!” Anita pleaded.

Then I saw Caroline’s face wrinkle as she shook her head and shot Dita a piercing glare.

Although I could barely hear her, the message was clear. And she was serious.

“Dats not Dawell, his name Poppy.  Dats my Poppy.”

What a revealing episode.  To her, I am not Derrell, Pastor, Coach, nor Mr. O’Neal.  I am Poppy, not just any Poppy, I am HER POPPY!  You see, it’s not just a name.  In her mind, Poppy, Dita, Mommy, and Daddy belong to her.  It is personal and relational.  Those aren’t mere titles; they are relationships that complete the world of a 2-year-old.  In fact, they are her world.

The angel told Mary, “Thou shalt call his name Jesus…”  That name would be greater than any other name before or after.  It would be more than a title; it would be, and is, the literal representation of the God who created the heavens and earth, on earth.  It is the name by which kingdoms rise and fall, through which miracles are performed, and upon which eternity rests.

Acts 4:10-12:10 let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. 11 This is the 'stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.'  12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."  NKJV

He is more than a name to those who love Him; He is life itself.  He is not the big guy, the big man, nor the man upstairs.  Neither is he Buddha, Mohamed, Allah, nor Krishna.  Rather, my Father is the one and only triune God…Father, Son and Holy Ghost. He is Jehovah, God the Father, Abba, Pappa, The Holy Spirit…He is Jesus!  The believer is most content and useful when he or she realizes that the Spirit of the living God lives and breathes from the depths of our souls.  We are becoming complete as we realize that all things emanate from the core of our relationship with Jesus, the Christ.

1 Corinthians  8:6: 6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. KJV

COUPLES!!!  Several of you have expressed an interest in learning how to grow your marriage and improve marital relationships.  It is imperative to begin at the foundational level.  As the personal relationship with Jesus is solidified, the husband/wife partnership usually follows.   Jamie and Anthony Starr will be conducting a couples’ discipleship/Bible study.  This study follows the path of Jesus as he established relationships with His disciples.  I have been through it once and taught it twice more, and I could go through it again.  I learn something new each time.  It will be held in the FLC and will begin Tuesday, February 22nd at 6:45 PM.  Please sign up with Anthony or Jamie, or contact Melissa in the office.

Psalm 8:6-9: 6 You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, 7 All sheep and oxen — Even the beasts of the field, 8 The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the seas. 9 O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth! NKJV

From my heart:

Pray for the Williams family in the loss of Jay’s Dad, Joseph Williams.

Also, by now you know we have a new Grand Baby, Jace William Floyd. As I write this letter, he is in NICU.  However, he seems to be improving, and Mommy and Daddy are doing well.  Praise the Lord!  Thank you all for the food, calls, emails, texts, and drop-bys, but most importantly, for your thoughts and prayers.

God bless you all,

Pastor Derrell

Refer to the ministry announcements for new times and locations in various ministries.

General Announcements:  If you have announcements for the newsletter or Sunday morning service, please get them to Melissa by 12:00 PM on Wednesday.  This will allow the AV team to process relative schedules, letters, videos, etc…

Covid News: Your startup team, who kept us safe through the original crises, is monitoring the virus situation.  We are continuing to sanitize the main auditorium and outlying areas.   If you are concerned about social distancing, you might consider coming to the early (8:30 AM) service because the numbers are somewhat less.  However, there is still room in the second service as well.  I encourage you to continue attending, but please, be considerate of those who are more vulnerable or might have concerns.

Please!  If you are sick, have experienced symptoms in recent days, or think you might have been exposed, stay home.  We can’t eliminate the virus, but we can help prevent an outbreak in our church.

ONLINE GIVING: We are pleased to announce our new text giving platform. Simply text the word "Give" to (844) 949-4039. You can also use our smartphone app. You can still give via mail as well.

The church address is:  Shiloh Baptist Church, 24 Kay St., Rossville, GA  30741.

We will continue to stream the 11:00 service as usual.  If you are sick, please stay home.  The staff and I understand how uncomfortable mass gatherings can be for some of you during these unusual times.    We don’t want anyone to feel pressured into coming if you are not comfortable doing so.

If you choose to meet at the church during the week, PLEASE!  Let Melissa know the time and location (room) for your ministries.  It is imperative that we coordinate all gatherings at the church. If you have questions about Shiloh ministries, contact us at secretary@shilohbaptistministry.com.
