Dear Shiloh Family,

“I will never live in an apartment!”  Those were my words pre-marriage, pre-adult, and pre-real world.  What an idiot!  As you have already surmised, Anita and I lived in a small apartment for almost two years.  However, in His time, we learned the value of trust, faith, and contentment.  Then, God divinely placed us in a small farmhouse in the middle of four acres, just below Chickamauga…with a small mortgage of course.

As our family outgrew the quaint abode, we looked for larger homes in different areas.  Yet, the first time our eyes wandered, we concluded; if the present dwelling had a master bedroom and bath, it would be perfect.  We chose to add an addition to meet our needs; and so, through the years, the story repeated itself with a laundry room, back porch, fenced pasture, new deck, etc.  Basically, we decided it was a wonderful place to raise a family, but we needed to adapt to the needs of physical, social, and spiritual growth patterns.

Now, we are accommodating grandchildren.  It is awesome!

There is a Bible story that has very similar tones.  A young lady by the name of Esther didn’t fully understand her place until this conversation:

Esther 4:13-16:  13 And Mordecai told them to answer Esther: "Do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king's palace any more than all the other Jews. 14 For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" 15 Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai: 16 "Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!" NKJV

Esther decided to do whatever it took to save her family and obey God.  In addition, the people fasted for her and their nation.

Likewise, many of you have recognized we are growing and have made the decision to obey the Lord in the work of His church.  I am excited that you have seen the spiritual and physical growth of SBC and have committed to adapt the environment to meet the needs of our families.  We can make this oasis on the hill even more special than it has been for many years.  It is imperative that we provide spiritual relevance for our children and grandchildren.  Instead of looking elsewhere, why not create it here?  It is up to you.

Anita and I learned that stability was more important to our family than the size of a building.  Let’s give our family and community something to be proud of.  More importantly, let’s honor our Lord in all we do, because we have all been placed in this place “for such a time as this.”

Along with the growth of new construction, we are joining many churches in the GBMB in the “6 for 6” project.  You will be given a prayer card this Sunday.  Please list 6 people/families and agree to fast and pray for them for the next 6 weeks.  Along with your prayers, extend an invitation to join us on Easter Sunday morning.  Your Pastors and Praise Team will do our best to present the Gospel of Jesus to them.  I’m looking forward to great things on this day and future days as well.

Happiness is usually not determined by external circumstances, rather it is achieved through internal conditions.

God bless you all,

Pastor Derrell

Refer to the ministry announcements for new times and locations in various ministries.

Please!  If you are sick, have experienced symptoms in recent days, or think you might have been exposed, stay home.  We can’t eliminate the virus, but we can help prevent an outbreak in our church.

We will continue to stream the 11:00 service as usual.  If you are sick, please stay home.  The staff and I understand how uncomfortable mass gatherings can be for some of you during these unusual times.    We don’t want anyone to feel pressured into coming if you are not comfortable doing so.

If you choose to meet at the church during the week, PLEASE!  Let Melissa know the time and location (room) for your ministries.  It is imperative that we coordinate all gatherings at the church. If you have questions about Shiloh ministries, contact us at secretary@shilohbaptistministry.com.
