Dear Shiloh Family,

Are any of you Wheel Watchers?  Anita and I often watch Wheel of Fortune and compete to be the first to solve the word puzzles.  During a recent airing, the conversation went something like this.

“Oh man! Are you kidding me?”

Anita replied, “What’s wrong?”

Spewing out an attitude that teetered somewhere between anger and disgust, I retorted, “I can’t believe I forgot to DVR this one.  I can’t fast forward through the commercials.”

Anita triumphantly responded, “Yes, you can. I programed it to record every week.” We looked at each other and erupted in laughter, and I confessed, “I can’t believe I’m so spoiled.  I was ready to let a few seconds of ads ruin a rare but much needed evening together.”

It was then that I realized…it’s not just me; it is where we are as a society.  We are programed for drive-through, microwave, ready-meals, and home delivery.  One can wash the car, pick up groceries, and see the doctor without getting out of the vehicle.

I am fearful that we have forgotten what it means to earn and appreciate the small amenities of life.  More importantly, like fast forwarding through the commercials, ads, sponsors, the ones who make the shows possible, we conveniently forget, rather ignore, the people who faithfully and consistently, sometimes silently, assist in our prosperity.  I want what I want, right now, regardless of the details.  Details aren’t important.

I want to say, from the bottom of my heart how appreciative I am for those in our church who are all about the details.  Thanks to all of you who make our worship experience possible.  Thanks for exemplifying obedience, humility, and servanthood.  I applaud those who get “infant giddy” about serving Jesus.  Please, forgive me for not noticing, and fast forwarding through your efforts.

Mark 10:14-16: 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. 16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them. KJV

I encourage everyone to be proactive in seeking out those special persons in your life; acknowledge their service, and when possible, reward them.  Most of all, stop, and take time to see the details of God’s word, and how He is constantly working in and around us for our good pleasure and protection for His glory.

Hebrews 13:20-21: 20 Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.  NKJV

Consequently, I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the team who worked on the remodel of the bathrooms in the main auditorium vestibule.  They are incredible!

We are baptizing this Sunday in the second service. If you have been considering baptism, or have been saved but never baptized, this would be a wonderful beginning for the new year.

Jamie and Anthony Starr will be conducting a couples’ DLife Bible study.  It will be held in the FLC and will begin Tuesday, February 22nd at 6:45 PM.  Please sign up with Anthony, Jamie, or contact Melissa in the office.

Assuming someone knows you care is like assuming a watchdog won’t bite.

God bless you all,

Pastor Derrell

Refer to the ministry announcements for new times and locations in various ministries.

General Announcements:  If you have announcements for the newsletter or Sunday morning service, please get them to Melissa by 12:00 PM on Wednesday.  This will allow the AV team to process relative schedules, letters, videos, etc…

Covid News: Your startup team, who kept us safe through the original crises, is monitoring the virus situation.  We are continuing to sanitize the main auditorium and outlying areas.   If you are concerned about social distancing, you might consider coming to the early (8:30 AM) service because the numbers are somewhat less.  However, there is still room in the second service as well.  I encourage you to continue attending, but please, be considerate of those who are more vulnerable or might have concerns.

Please!  If you are sick, have experienced symptoms in recent days, or think you might have been exposed, stay home.  We can’t eliminate the virus, but we can help prevent an outbreak in our church.

ONLINE GIVING: We are pleased to announce our new text giving platform. Simply text the word "Give" to (844) 949-4039. You can also use our smartphone app. You can still give via mail as well.

The church address is:  Shiloh Baptist Church, 24 Kay St., Rossville, GA  30741.

We will continue to stream the 11:00 service as usual.  If you are sick, please stay home.  The staff and I understand how uncomfortable mass gatherings can be for some of you during these unusual times.    We don’t want anyone to feel pressured into coming if you are not comfortable doing so.

If you choose to meet at the church during the week, PLEASE!  Let Melissa know the time and location (room) for your ministries.  It is imperative that we coordinate all gatherings at the church. If you have questions about Shiloh ministries, contact us at secretary@shilohbaptistministry.com.

YEARLY TAX STATEMENTS:  Your annual charitable contribution statements are ready and are located in the main auditorium vestibule.

PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS:  If you would like to meet to discuss membership at Shiloh, I would love to meet with you between the two morning services from 10:00 – 10:30 AM.  Please schedule the appointment through the church office.
