Dear Shiloh Family,

He was right outside my window, and he was singing/chirping with every breath.  To the ornithologist/nature-lover, it was very likely sweet bird music.  Now, I love the outdoors, but it was 5:30 AM.  That’s in the morning!  An avian chorus can turn fowl very rapidly.  You get it.

If you google why birds sing in the dark, morning, evening, Spring, Summer, when it’s warm, cold, or raining, it will tell you that birds sing to find a mate, to mark their territory, because it’s dark and they can’t find food, to show they are healthy, because they are social, and because they have nothing else to do.  Basically, birds sing because that’s what birds do.  They make bird noises because they are birds.

Song of Solomon 2:11-12

11 For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. 12 The flowers appear on the earth; The time of singing has come, And the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.  NKJV

Oh, how we can learn from nature. The Psalms are heavy, bursting with the sounds of singing.

Psalm 47:6-7: 6 Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!  7 For God is the King of all the earth; Sing praises with understanding. NKJV

Psalm 104:33: 33 I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. NKJV

We were created to sing praises to God.  It’s easy to make a joyful noise when we are happy and things are going well, but I must remind you we can lift our voices in song in times of adversity as well.  Through trials and tribulations, we can sing.  Through sadness and sorrow, we can sing.  In pandemonium and peril, we can sing.  Even through deserts and death, we can still sing.

Through Jesus Christ, we sing a new song.  A song the Angels can’t sing…a song of the redeemed.  We are made new through regeneration of His Blood.  We are washed clean and filled with His spirit…filled until our cup runs over and spills out in song.   When a sleeping world is too groggy to listen to our sermons, let them hear the song of our hearts.

Hebrew 2:10-12

10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 saying: "I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly, I will sing praise to You." NKJV

The ways of the world can never suppress the hymns of heaven.

God bless you all,

Pastor Derrell
