Dear Shiloh Family,

     The little guy was very attentive as Mom and Grandma prepared the evening meal.  After a time of contemplation, he casually replied, “Are y’all making some of them temptation eggs?”

     To which Grand quizzed, “What kind of eggs?”

     “I want some of those temptation eggs.”

     Mother and Grandmother were usually expert kid-code breakers, but for a moment, this was one that required a bit of deciphering.  “Now tell us again what kind of eggs you want.”

     With a slight hint of frustration, little dude replied, “You know, the eggs that are cut in half with stuff in the middle.”

    Obviously, the room erupted in laughter, and Granna retorted, “You mean Deviled eggs.  Why did you call them temptation eggs?”

     “Well, in AWANA, they said temptation was the Devil.”

     From the mouths of Babes…What incredible insight!  At first thought, we judge that the lad didn’t have a clue what he was talking about.  But did he?  It seems to me the young man not only recognized the name of the Devil, even more, he understood the character of the evil one.

     I’m afraid that we have become so enamored with Lucifer, Devil, Satan. and other proper names of who he is, that we have missed his character and the nature of what he is.  He is deception, he is lies, he is death, he is false light, he is a lion, he is contention, and yes, he is temptation.  The Gospel of John describes him like this;

John 8:44-45: He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. NKJV

     My prayer is that we look past the neon signs, flashing lights, and the little man with horns and a pitchfork.  I pray that we have our spiritual, social, and moral radar tuned to recognize the true destructive nature of the beast.

     God the Father is pleased when we resist Satan, run from his snares, and hate his nature.  In fact, our Good, Good Father has earthly and heavenly blessings set aside for those who do.

1 Peter 5:8-11:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.  11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. NKJV

     I would have never gotten burned by the beautiful flames of a fire if I had listened to my father.

God bless you all,

Pastor Derrell
