Dear Shiloh Family,

I’m not much of a people follower, nor would I make a good roadie.  However, I am somewhat partial to athletes and public figures who exemplify solid character traits.  Recently, in the RBC Heritage PGA golf tournament, a young golfer moved a notch higher on the respect meter and attained fan status from a few younger followers as well.

After finishing his final exhausting 18 holes of regulation play, Jordan Spieth, the present leader, paused to sign a few autographs.  Among the cries of, “Mr. Spieth, sign my score card.”  “Here’s my hat,” and “Jordan, please, sign this for my Dad,” the young superstar was made aware that he might be in a sudden death play-off.  At which time, he told the youngsters that he needed to rest for a bit and then hit a few practice balls.  He also made them a promise that he would return to that exact spot with them later.  On the first playoff hole, he made an amazing pitch from the bunker to within 6” to win the tournament.

During the post-match interview, one of the many reporters mentioned a “rabid mob of youngsters” hanging around outside.  Spieth grinned and alluded to the fact that he needed to keep the remaining questions to a minimum because he told those kids he would be back.

Over an hour later, after a physically draining round of golf, an emotionally taxing tiebreaker, and a stressful press conference, the hero honored a promise to a mob of kids, most of which he probably didn’t know personally…but they certainly know him.  He may never win another golf match, but there are a few starstruck boys and girls who believe in integrity.  Those children know that at least one PGA member, no matter how tired, how stressed, how popular, or how rich, honored his word and shared a rare and valuable moment with them.

Proverbs 20:6-7: 6 Most men will proclaim each his own goodness,

But who can find a faithful man? 7 The righteous man walks in his integrity;

His children are blessed after him. NKJV

I am so proud to be associated with my heroes, my Shiloh family.   Each week, our children observe as faithful men and women fulfill promises made to our Lord.  Each week, you share valuable time with our little ones and fellow believers.  Each week, you leave a legacy of Christlikeness to our church community.  It is important for me that you know you are loved, and your efforts are being noticed.

Easter Sunday was an incredible worship experience!  From the parking lot to the outdoor pulpit, from the Sunrise Service to Sunday School hour, and from the breakfast to the praise band, everyone was exceptional.  It was truly a great day in the Lord.  And what a lifetime impression our College/Career ministry made on our children and their families.  Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

A special thanks goes to Linda Fowlkes and Margaret Guinn.  They have decorated our Main Auditorium for the past four years. Due to physical restrictions, they will be stepping down from the ministry.  Their faithful efforts will be greatly missed.  Ladies, we love you and appreciate the beautiful and timely arrangements.  May God richly bless you both.

If anyone is interested in heading up a new decorating team, please contact Melissa or me.

May 5th is National Day of Prayer.  Our NWGBA (Baptist association) will be gathering to pray at the Associational Office in Rock Spring at 11:00 AM.  Everyone is invited to attend.

The greatest impressions are often made when no one is watching.

God bless you all,

Pastor Derrell
