Dear Shiloh Family,

As we peered out the fieldhouse window, the opposition didn’t seem to have the awe factor that we had often seen.  They weren’t overly blessed with size, and their numbers were very much like ours.  It particularly caught my attention as they casually strolled from the charter bus to the visitor’s locker room without arrogance or horseplay.  They were shoulder to shoulder and near stride for stride.  During the pregame warmups, we didn’t ogle at an imposing athlete that gives opposing coaches ulcers and night sweats.  Appearance defined them at best, average.

We thwarted their opening drive, received the punt, marched down the field and penetrated the endzone with relative ease.  Subconsciously, and from some, verbally, the celebration began early on the home team sideline.  However, a different football squad took the ensuing kickoff, and my previous interest in their team discipline turned to legitimate concern.

A Fife, Alabama football team morphed into a meticulous gridiron machine.  They performed like a well-oiled sewing machine, stitching, weaving, and piecing together the pattern of a near perfect game plan.  They calmly, but precisely covered every inch of the field until ultimately crossing our goal line…again, and again, and again…It was 30-7 at half-time.  The remainder of the game was routine and uneventful.  The postgame film review revealed that during several plays, all 11 players performed their individual position requirements to perfection.  They weren’t big; they weren’t fast, but they were a team, carrying out the coach’s plan.

Psalm 20:7

7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. KJV

If the church, any church, our church is to move forward, it won’t be because of the Pastor, Deacons, Praise Team nor wealthy contributors.  Rather, it will perform to perfection when every believer in the church fulfills the bodily requirements that God has called him or her to do.

Ephesians 4:15-16

15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.  NIV

Consequently, we will be having a SALT (Staff And Leadership Team) meeting this Sunday, May 1st, at 4:30 PM, in the FLC.  If you are church staff, involved in leadership in any ministry in any capacity, or are interested in the ministries of Shiloh, you are invited and encouraged to attend.  Your input in the future and progress of your church is invaluable.  We would graciously welcome a representative from each ministry.  Thank you in advance.

If one member fails to perform, it isn’t a true team effort.

God bless you all,

Pastor Derrell
