Dear Shiloh Family,

Is there anything that Mama can’t doAs a child, I thought Dad was invincible, and Mom could fix any problem, or answer any questionHowever, upon reflection, I thought of a few things that couldn’t happen at Mama’s house.

It was impossible to enter Mama’s house without a smile and warm welcomeSibling or stranger, friend or foe entered on neutral groundThere was never a limit to the number of attendees at Mama’s houseAs far as I know, mom never sent out an RSVP to family get-togethers or holiday gatherings There was no dress code, card, or covered dish requirement; Just come on in.

Sleeping was never limited to bedsIt was not unusual to have difficulty navigating a path through the living room for fear of stepping on a sleeping teen or grandchild.

Leaving Mama’s house had issues as wellIt was unheard of to leave hungry or with empty handsYou had to take something home for lunch tomorrow, or for the unfortunate ones who hadn’t made the tripNo one left with a hole in the knee of their jeansThe tear was mended, or a replacement garment was offeredSkinned knees, elbows, and especially hearts, were never left unattended…not at Mama’s houseAnd it would have been easier to walk through a rainstorm without getting wet than to leave Mama’s house without a hug.

By the way, I wrote the first part of the letter in past tense…things haven’t changed one bitIt is still the same today, at my Mama’s houseI’m sure many of you can say the same.

Proverbs 6:20-22

20 My son, keep your father's commands and do not forsake your mother's teaching. 21 Bind them upon your heart forever; fasten them around your neck 22 When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you NIV

Moms, thanks for all you have done and are still doingI hope you have the best Mother’s Day ever.

Shiloh, my prayer is that all who enter Shiloh Baptist Church will experience the same attributes we have mentioned about Mama’s housePlease, lets work together to make it a lifechanging event when folks come into God’s house.

Isaiah 66:13

13 As one whom his mother comforts, So I will comfort you; NKJV

Psalm 122:1

122 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORDKJV

What Mama didn’t teach me, I probably didn’t need to know

God bless you all,

Pastor Derrell
