Dear Shiloh Family,

My heart is heavy and deeply saddened as are many others.  At least nineteen once lively houses will be silent, playground swings will hang motionless, bicycle wheels will no longer roll, dolls will no longer be accessorized, school busses will roll past regular stops, and moms and dads will search for answers that don’t exist.  The only resolve Is to look for supernatural comfort.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5: 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. NKJV

Our morning devotions and daily meditations must be filled with prayer for everyone affected by the Texas tragedy.  However, the ramifications are not limited to the small Texas community.  In fact, we are not immune from the same scenario in any of our local schools.  It is a nationwide concern.  More importantly, I fear it is an indication of an apathetic and spiritually depraved culture of an entire nation.  Whatever the sentiment, instantly, priorities that once consumed their lives became mundane and meaningless.

We blame it on guns, government, genetics, and guards, but I can’t help but wonder if the outcome would have been different if the perpetrator and all those around him would have been subjected to a lifetime of solid Biblical principles, examples of God-based brotherly love, and a genuine love for Jesus.  Unfortunately, the events of the past cannot be reversed, but we can examine the priorities of the present.

I encourage everyone to assess the things we deem so important.  Discover new ways to love your kids and families.  Bring them to church and teach them about Jesus.  Reach out to those who lack influence of a Godly dad or mom.  Most importantly, pray, pray, pray, and pray more for your families and church leaders.

If your children or grandchildren are not involved in youth and children’s ministries, please, get them involved.  Parents, it is our responsibility to surround our young ones with love and Biblical principles.  We, as a staff are diligently working to provide programs to assist in the process, but we can’t force children to come.  It is up to you.

Consequently, one young man gave his heart to Jesus in the Man Church service last Sunday.  Praise the Lord!

WHEN ANSWERS AREN’T ENOUGH, GOD IS.

God bless you all,

Pastor Derrell
