Dear Shiloh Family

It was a simple white handkerchief.  There was nothing special about it.  It probably wasn’t made of the finest silk or synthetics.  In fact, it might have been hand-sewn from an old tablecloth and remained hidden most of the time.  However, when it appeared from the pocketbook, sleeve, or pocket of a dear Saint (my grandmother being one), something rare, and often supernatural was in progress.

The occurrence was somewhat of a modern-day wave offering.  The white flag might be presented at a campground after a miracle had taken place, on the front porch following a closet prayer session, or more often, in a worship service when the Holy Spirit had manifest Himself in a mighty way.  In either case, like the Old Testament wave offering, it was commonly preceded by fasting, coupled with earnest supplication, and waved unashamedly before God for all people to see.  It left an indelible impression on me as a child, and by the way, I don’t ever remember snickering nor poking fun when it happened.  On the contrary, the event ushered in a Holy reverence that no one dared disturb.

Leviticus 23:14-15

14 You shall eat neither bread nor parched grain nor fresh grain until the same day that you have brought an offering to your God; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. 15 'And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering:  NKJV

I am thankful for the Godly ladies in my life.  My grandmothers, Mom, and several other influential saintly women in and around our church imprinted a Biblical pattern in the minds of so many children and adults as well.  I am also blessed beyond words to have a wonderful wife who exemplifies the Biblical design for a Mom and companion.

Moms, thank you all for the sacrifices made, the prayers offered, the lessons taught, and the love deposited for your babies.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

No scientist will ever discover medicine more effective than a mother’s touch.

God bless you all,

Pastor Derrell
