Dear Shiloh Family,

I knew our good friends, and the hosts of our timeshare vacation resort, would receive a gratuity, so I agreed to take an hour or two of our vacation to sit through an inspiring sales presentation.  You know, the ones where you get to the midpoint and your mind begins to debate which is worse, this moment or that wonderful night of preparation before a colonoscopy.

Anita agreed that I was very tactful in the beginning, when I informed the well-dressed gentleman that I was already a member of an RV resort timeshare and absolutely wouldn’t be purchasing anything today.  He said he understood but must complete his task. So, we settled in for a long winter’s nap and he maneuvered for position.  Then, it happened…he made a tactical error.  He asked me about my profession and how I became a pastor.  I awakened from my conscious slumber and asked him if he was a believer in Jesus Christ, at which point, he had to momentarily leave the table and retrieve a forgotten document.

“I know what you’re doing.”  Anita sheepishly commented with a smile.

“Yep, this will be very short, or this young man will hear the gospel.” I replied.

To our surprise, when he returned, our timeshare specialist shared a “Jesus experience” and asked me my thoughts about the encounter.

Oh man!  That was like leaving an open door of a room full of cheese to a hungry mouse.  I stepped across the threshold, and for the next two hours, we shared the gospel.

 Mark 16:15

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. KJV

The next phase of his sales pitch was to take us on a tour of the property.  At least the seed had been planted, I reasoned, and the Holy Spirit could work after we vacated.  However, as we exited the preview building, our journey led under a small cypress grove.  The Spirit was working, and the man abruptly stopped and posed a question.

“Would you mind if we sit here at this picnic table for a minute?  I’ve always liked this spot, and I would love to talk more about the subject we were discussing inside.”

The sun that previously was beating down on us slid behind a cloud, a cool breeze almost supernaturally appeared, and there under the Spanish moss, John gave his life to Jesus.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention; it was my birthday.  What a wonderful birthday…for me, and for him as well.

2 Tim 4:1-3

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage — with great patience and careful instruction. NIV

The door of salvation can open at any time.  Be constantly ready to lead someone through it.

P.S.- It was such a blessing to be able to see Shiloh at work on the live stream.  It’s good to see the Lord working and have confirmation that the ministry is not about any person.  It is all about HIM!

God bless you all,

Pastor Derrell
