Dear Shiloh Family,

Do you ever cross a river or lake, look down from the bridge at boats cruising below and wish you could swap places?  Me too!  Recently, I crossed Nick-a-Jack Lake on my way to Nashville.  With no one else in the vehicle, I audibly exclaimed, “Man, I would love to be down there fishing.”

Last week, A friend and I were fortunate enough to spend a couple of hours on the water, and yes, we were on that same lake.  It was getting late, but I informed my passenger that I had to make a run down river before we trailered the vessel.  He took the bait as if he didn’t know I was fishing for a response (I know, I couldn’t resist the pun), and asked, “Why do we need to go down river.”

To which I sheepishly responded, “Because I want someone to look down from that bridge and say, ‘I wish I was in that boat’.”  THERE’S NOTHING LIKE BEING THERE.

I love to watch fishing shows on TV.  However, the first tug on my line that evening confirmed why I enjoy watching others catch fish.  Watching videos of successful anglers sparks memories of past fishing trips of my own and ignites possibilities of future excursions. THERE’S NOTHING LIKE BEING THERE!

Watching hunting shows on “The Sportsman’s Channel” simply doesn’t have the same impact as days afield and mornings in the deer woods with my hunting companions.  THERE’S NOTHING LIKE BEING THERE.

Next week, many of you will hear tales of love, laughter, girls, guys, giggles, and gags.  You will smile as your church family members relate stories of singing, skits, shouts, and hopefully, salvations.  You will wish you had seen children of all ages shouting for Jesus, and adults making fools of themselves for the cause of Christ and for the case of love.  You will wish you had been at Shiloh VBS.  THERE’S NOTHING LIKE BEING THERE!

You can be.  Come join us next week beginning this Sunday at 6:30.

You will always be only an observer until you decide not to be.

God bless you all,
Pastor Derrell
