Dear Shiloh Family,

He sauntered through the living room and shot a glance my way as he strolled by the recliner.  He held a soda can a bit higher than normal, much like a young Statue of Liberty without the crown…but he had the same look of victory and achievement.  However, his facial expression soon turned to impatience and near frustration.

On the second pass, the can rose higher, and he exclaimed, “Look Poppy.”

What was I missing?  I still didn’t get it.

“Poppy, let me show you.”  He was now in teaching mode.  “Watch me.  You put your thumb here, and then you pull the tab all the way over and push it back.”  His face now beamed as if he had solved the national debt crisis.

“Oh wow!”  I replied, “When did you learn to open a coke can?   That is awesome!”

Then, as children usually do, he went straight to the lesson he was really trying to teach me.

“Poppy, when you learn something new, that means you are growing up.”

Wow!  The can conquest wasn’t the issue.  Brady’s real desire was that Granddad noticed he was growing up.  Aren’t we like that with God?

“Lord, did you notice I had my devotion this morning?  Look, God.  I paid my tithes, made a call, visited a shut-in, or prayed every day this week.  Heavenly Father, can you see I’m growing up?”  We need Him to notice; and that’s OK.  It’s OK as long as we develop a love relationship with His Son in the process, and as long as we mature along the way.

He always notices, He always cares, and He eventually rewards as well. The important thing is that we don’t do it for accolades or recognition.  We must continue to learn and grow out of love for Him and for His children, that He receives the glory.

1 Corinthians 10:31

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

2 Timothy 2:15

15 Study to show thyself approved to God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

We are ever-changing, constantly adapting, and I hope always learning.  My prayer is that we, at Shiloh, never stop growing in His grace and in knowledge of His word.  Don’t be dismayed, God is sending new family members into our body.  Folks are coming to a saving knowledge of Jesus through the ministries of your church.  Trust Him, lean on Him, learn about His ways, and tell others about His love.

1 Peter 5:10

And the God of all grace, who called you unto his eternal glory in Christ, after that ye have suffered a little while, shall himself perfect, establish, strengthen you.

Please, come and support Pastor David Brown, as we ordain him into the Gospel ministry.  The service will be Sunday evening at 6:00 in the Main Auditorium.

We also encourage you to sign up for Homecoming.  We are catering the meal and need to know an accurate number of attendees as soon as possible.  You can sign up here,  call the office, and there will also be sign up sheets throughout the church campus.   If you didn’t receive the link via Churchcast, it is also on the app and the website.

Growth is like washing your car.  You know there’s always another mud hole.
