Dear Shiloh Family,

I wonder what it would have been like to have seen God in a burning bush.  How would it feel to witness the plagues and be totally protected or walk through the Dead Sea without experiencing even the slightest trace of moisture.  Wouldn’t it have been awesome to have awakened to sweet Manna in the morning, gather quail in the evening, and get water from a rock?  Oh, to have gathered with the thousands for worship as the odor of sacrifice ascended and the presence of Shekinah descended and hovered over the people.  To celebrate with David and Joshua over great battle victories would have been awesome!  The wonder and power of the prophets must have been something to behold.  And then, to have ogled at the miracles of Jesus…or heard His sermons; that would have been glorious!  Think about it.

Hebrews 11:13-14
13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.  NKJV

Maybe, just maybe when we get to heaven, one of the heroes of faith will inquire of us what it was like to travel at will and have unlimited audio and visual privileges.   Moses might like to know what it would have been like to talk to God without climbing a mountain, meet with Him without the need of a priest, and be accepted to Him without sacrificial requirements.   They might want to hear us tell how God provided more food, clothing, and amenities than we could use in a lifetime.

1 John 4:13-14
13 By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.  NKJV

I think the Old Testament Saints will be awed of our abilities to daily view and hear about the miracles of God, read the word of God at will, watch the work of God, and join the worship of His Son, Jesus Christ, from the palm of our hand.  I’m convinced the Saints of old will tell us how incredibly blessed we were to have had the Spirit of God comforting, living, dwelling, and working inside of us.  Perhaps, the most revealing moment will be when the heavenly angels step aside and ask to hear that song they don’t know…the song of the redeemed.  Now, think about that!

1 Peter 1:18-20
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.  NKJV

Don’t forget, this Sunday is Homecoming.  Sunday School will begin at normal time.  We will only have one service beginning at 11:00 AM.  Immediately following the worship service, we will fellowship over a wonderful catered dinner in the FLC.  We only ask you to bring your favorite desert. Come join us.

The youth will be having a Back-to-school bash at 5:00 PM this Sunday after Homecoming. Parents, please help us in the transportation efforts to and from the event.  What a great opportunity to introduce new students to our ministry.

We often push aside the best of times in an effort to find them.

God bless you all,
Pastor Derrell
