Dear Shiloh Family,
Inclement weather had held the kindergarteners prisoner for more than a week. Frigid temps or soaking precipitation had declared recess off limits. Finally, the thermometer had risen above freezing, the sun peeked out from the gray clouds, and the children were granted a brief period of outdoor bliss. However, freedom came with a limitation - stay out of the mudpuddles.
The little guy knew he could make it; it was only a small mud hole. His friends warned him and barked remembrances of his teacher’s caution. Consequently, telling a young boy to stay out of standing water was like putting a fox in the coop and asking him to avoid the hens - or like taking a preacher to Bea’s and telling him he can’t eat fried chicken. He just had to try - he didn’t make it. The evidence was all over the seat of his pants.
After facing the music and coming clean (or not clean) with his teacher, the lad pleaded to get a change of clothes from his cubby, go the restroom, and put on new duds. The request was granted.
Wouldn’t you know it? When things start downhill, everything goes south. In the middle of the transformation, the fire alarm sounded. You would think admin would wait until naked kindergarten boys were fully clothed before initiating a fire drill. At any rate, he stuck his head out the restroom door and yelled for help. As his educator started down the hallway to retrieve the dude in distress, he stepped out into the hall in all his glory. With one leg half in his breeches, underwear twisted just above his knees, and nothing but socks on his feet, the frantic little rounder screamed, “What do I do?”
The lady convinced him to step back in and cover the essentials; the shoes could come later. The two made it outside with the rest of the class without further incidence.
Often, we get anxious, God gives us a little freedom, and we just can’t handle it. However, in our own efforts in the process of cleaning up our mess, we forget that God’s fire alarm could sound at any time. Those who fail to heed the call to follow Jesus will stand before God, exposed for who they really are.
We have the message of freedom and know the path to safety. We can lead them to one who can keep them clean and eventually…safe from the fire. The problem is that we don’t know when that final day will come. It is imperative we get serious about spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 25:13:13 "Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming. NKJV
Luke 21:36: 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man." NKJV
Why is it we will warn others when police are running radar, but we won’t tell them about a God who sees all?
God bless you all,
Pastor Derrell
